One Day At The Passport Office

Image Source There are two kinds of people I loathe. One, the ones who don't work and make money for themselves. Two, the ones who work but do not do their job properly. Our Indian Government offices are a perfect example of the latter. Yesterday was a day that I would never forget in my life. I missed going to office, did not complete the task I was expected to do in the interim, missed lunch, and then came back home with a deadly migraine. A few days ago, my husband and I decided to get our passports renewed as it just a few months away from the expiry date. When we started off the process online, we were thrilled. All you had to do is create an account, download a PDF, update your data in it, save it in the format of an XML, upload it, make a payment and choose a time-slot for the verification of the documents at a nearest passport center. It was done in under ten minutes for each of us. We were impressed with how much the process has improved and thought that half the b

Corporate Circus #2: Suit Up

Image Source A week before my first day in the corporate world, eight and a half years ago, I went shopping! Formal pants and shirts were bought along with shoes and bags. I even picked up some Indian wear for office as my joining location was Chennai and not Bangalore. Of course, everyone wants to look professional and be comfortable at work. The initial few days at work, everyone was dressed in their best. Top to bottom in formals. I could see some of them wearing ties as well. Soon, we realized that there was no strict dress code in our company. That is when the trouble started. Dressing well is really important to me as a person. At work, or anywhere else. Unfortunately not everyone thinks the same. Sometimes I feel that it is important to include a hygiene clause while hiring someone. IT companies seriously need to think about it. I know it is a personal choice, but at times people only do a few things when they are asked to. A few years ago, I worked in a team where the t

Pages: 352 This was a Kindle recommended book and since the blurb looked pretty interesting, I picked it up. This is the debut novel of the author and it is expected to be on the lines of The Girl On The Train . With absolutely no expectations, I began reading and was done with it in a couple of days. Jack and Grace Angel are the perfect married couple. Jack has the looks and the wealth, while Grace is all about perfection, charm and elegance. No matter what, you cannot not like them. They throw the perfect lunch and dinners for their friends in their beautiful house. Jack, the handsome lawyer who fights for battered wives and saves them from the clutches of their evil husbands. The Inner Scene

Image Source Aren't clothes such a wonderful creation? Just imagine all of us walking around naked or with leaves to cover our basics? A scary picture? Yeah, thought so. So you do agree that clothes is a wonderful creation. In my honest opinion, so are inner clothes. The ones we wear inside our clothes to hold up a certain few things. Yes, paint a picture if you must. The thing about innerwear is that it should be worn inside your outerwear. While most of us understand this, there are a few others who think that innerwear=outerwear. There also are people who think that if you wear inner clothes, you must show it at any cost. I may not be a fashion nazi, but I atleast know the basic difference between innerwear and outerwear. Let's start with the men first. They need to know that boxers are not shorts that they can wear and walk out of the house. Or for shopping. Or to the gym. Or to a temple. Boxers are also like briefs, only with ample room. I do agree that appearances

Blogging Goals: 2017

Image Source 2016 was pretty decent in terms of blogging. The writing goals that I had set at the beginning of the year were all fulfilled. This March as I complete eight years of blogging, I thought it would be better to write down a set of blogging goals. Also, since the OCD freak in me loves making lists this is more of a happy task for me. I have heard and read a lot about blogging in the past year and while some thoughts made me nod vigorously, others made me want to show them the finger. Blogging definitely is a way of life for me, but is not something that keeps me alive. Yes, I like to write and read other blogs, but I do not live to do that. During my initial days of blogging, I used to think that I cannot stay without writing. But later I realized that I wasn't much busy with work back then and hence blogging was a way to cure my boredom. As the years passed, I realized that as much as writing is important to me, I still can live without it. Well, I still have read

Book Review: Salvation Of A Saint

Image Source Title: Salvation Of A Saint Author: Keigo Higashino Publisher: Little, Brown Book Group (17 January 2013) Genre: Crime, Thriller & Mystery Price: Rs. 244 on Amazon . Pages: 384 It is a known fact that I love the mysteries written by Keigo Higashino. The very reason why I bought all of his books that were translated to English in one go. There is something very easy about his writing that reading it feels like a breeze. The mystery builds up page after page and explodes only in the last couple of pages. You cannot predict anything while reading his books. Even if you do, you will be proven wrong at the last minute. You might have a gut feeling about the killer, it maybe right even, but the way it unfolds would be something else altogether. This was one such book for me.

Action Replay: 2016

Image Source 2016 wasn't a very good year for me. Neither was it a bad year. It was a confusing year that took me to the highest of highs and the lowest lows. Before I go in to the recap of the year, let's see how December fared for me. December did start off in a hectic way with work taking up most of my time. I was busy and barely had time for anything else. This month I focused on writing more than reading. I did manage eleven posts and I think that it is pretty decent. Since I had already finished my reading challenge in October, I stuck to comics in December. I discovered Tintin and fell in love with the story telling. As a child I hadn't read much comics, so it was time to make up for it. I did start ' One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest '. After reading the 22 page introduction, I was blown away. I couldn't wait to start the actual story. And then life happened. No matter how hard I tried I did not find time to read. The maximum time that I could sp
