Earn Your Stripes

Since ages, you haven't had a voice
It is now time to scream out loud
Dig your own path with those nails
Make your way through this chauvinistic crowd

Walk with your head held high
Wear what you want, let them stare
They aren't used to seeing you this way
Change that, come on, dare

Push yourself, work harder
With no doubts claim that extra penny
No one will praise you for this
To point fingers, there will be many

Ignore them and march ahead
Make independence your super power
Groom yourself to be your own knight
Among the males, make sure you tower

At work, make your voice heard
Fight, fight, till you succeed
Make your way to the top
For women everywhere, sow the seed

As a homemaker, do your bit
Contributing to the home should be your aim
Nourish your passion and give it life
Even if small, have something with your name

Don't ask a man for your wants
Let go off that materialistic greed
Do something for yourself
Make sure you can afford what you need

Plan better and push yourself
The fire within, show everyone
Bid goodbye to procrastination
Do not rest until you're done

Never feel weak, not for a second
You are no less than a man
Strengthen your body, mind and soul
You can do it only if you know you can

We need to stand up for each other
For the working women and the housewives
Shout, scream, fight or bleed
Come on woman, earn your stripes

  8. Brilliantly expressed. All the working women and the homemakers should hold each others' backs instead of pointing fingers at each other and creating fragments in their own clan.

  9. It's so beautiful, Soumya. Sacrificing my career was the most difficult decision that I had to take in my life. And with that, I know that I have lost a part of me. Your words "Nourish your passion, however small it maybe" gives hope to women like me! Absolutely loved it! Keep writing :)
