Simplify #WOTY2019

My word of the year for 2018 was 'Survive' and boy, did life take it seriously or what! When I sat down to think about my word of the year for 2019, there were too many choices. I wanted something realistic and something that is very important to me. I have always been a very impulsive person. While most people think that I'm impulsive only in terms of speech, I'm much like that in all spheres of life too. I speak what's on my mind, and, my actions reflect the same too. I make impulsive decisions and then think too much about it. Since 2018 kept me really busy, it made me over think a lot too.

Was I being a good daughter? A good wife? A good friend? With barely any time in hand, I was trying to do too much and think too much. It clearly was not going down well on me. I usually am an over thinker, no denying that. Being impulsive and an over thinker is not a good combination at all. I tend to think a lot about what I'm doing and what I have to do. I make huge lists and set too many goals for myself. This takes a toll of me and affects me mentally and physically later. If there is one thing that 2018 has taught me, it is to not over-complicate things. I normally don't react to such things, but I fight a battle inside my head.

Keeping all this in mind and for my mental sanity, the word that I've chosen for 2019 is:

While Simplify is defined as:

make (something) simpler or easier to do or understand.

It's synonyms are: make more comprehensible, make more intelligible, remove the complexities from, disentangle, untangle, unravel etc.

Remove the complexities from is what struck my eye and I want to try to implement this in real life too. While I've already simplified my life by discarding a lot of unnecessary people, I still have to simplify my thoughts and the way I look at certain things and implement them. People always say that everything in life is simple, it is the mind that complicates things. I would agree to a large extent. This year I'm going to take things slow and with a pinch of salt. I'm not going to over think or over analyze stuff. I know I'm gonna be busy this year too, but I'm going to break down huge tasks and simplify them.

Last year I made a five minute deal with myself. As in, any situation no matter how good or bad it is, I'll think or talk about it for five minutes and then let it go. After that nor will I mull over it or feel bad about it. This year I'm going to make it three. No thought or person is worth more than three minutes in an already crowded mind.

This year I'm going to simplify my relationships, my workload, my emotions and everything else in between.

Simplify is my word of the year for 2019, what's yours?

  3. Wow!! so much clarity Soumz - this is awesome to read! You go girl for this is really what all of need to do with our lives too. It makes life more real and meaningful when we learn to dumb down things to a level where they matter to only oneself!! Cheers on the WOTY; I am still doing my post but loving each and every one that I have read so far!!

This sounds so very me. Twin souls? Lol!

I love the deal you have made and thank you for inspiring me to imbibe this myself. I so need this exercise in my life right now.

As I bid 2018 adieu I told myself, I would like to declutter major parts of my life, and I'm so glad I'm now on the onward journey of decluttering things, activities, people; from my life so that I can spend more time nourishing "myself" and my loved ones. That's it. No space of necessary relationships, or baggages anymore. I'm so done with those.

I'm also working on nurturing the loved ones I had kind of lost touch with, as life took over. These are the ones who have been the wind in my sail for the longest.
Amen to that! I got to get down to writing my WOTY too. But I'm currently struggling to figure out which one, as I have a few jostling for space. Let's see. :)

Sending you much love and big hugs. I'm rooting for you as you simplify your life, this year.

  7. A great choice for the WOTY of the year, Soumya. I hope your year reflects your word, and brings you immense joy!

I haven't ever attached a word to a year, but if I were to, I guess this would be a good choice for me as well. Along with Hustle. See even here I can't pick one. You know now why I don't choose a WOTY. :D

Hustle sounds fascinating too, but that was all 2018 was about for me. This year I'm going all out to Simplify my life.
