D: Diana, Princess Of Wales #AToZChallenge

Let me let out a secret here. I am truly, madly and deeply obsessed with the British Royals. I have followed them closely much before the era of social media. Now with the advent of social media, it gets more easier to know what they are up to. While Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are charming in their own way, neither of them hold a candle to their late mother-in-law, Diana.

A very young Diana Spencer married Charles, the Prince of Wales knowing very well that he would never love her. She thought that she loved him enough for the relationship to survive, but she was in for a surprise. When Charles continued his relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles even after the birth of his two children, Diana knew that her marriage had ended. But, not being the one to mope and accept her husband's infidelity, Diana continued to live her life the way she wanted to. While her affairs are not justified, she probably was only looking for someone to love her whole and soul.

Diana did not live an easy life. Being the Princess of Wales came with a large share of media attention that eventually led to her death. Yet, she tried her best to give her children a normal upbringing. Diana was very active in her role as the Princess and people loved her. 'The People's Princess' she was called. In spite of what was going on in her life, Diana walked with her head held high and did not succumb to the pressures her life came with. Even after her much publicized divorce, Diana continued her role as the Princess of Wales and worked extensively with charities and organizations including health-related matters like AIDS and Leprosy. She broke every royal protocol and touched and hugged the patients. She made them feel like they were a part of her.

In recognition of her effect as a philanthropist, Stephen Lee, director of the UK Institute of Charity Fundraising Managers, said "Her overall effect on charity is probably more significant than any other person's in the 20th century." That's the person that she was.

For someone who led such a controversial life, it is difficult to look at her as an inspiration, but when you look at her as a person, her thoughts, her desires, her big heart; you cannot help but fall in love with her. She left the world too soon. There are a lot of documentaries that try to do justice to who she was. 'The Story Of Diana' on Netflix is one of them. Watch it if you haven't already.

  1. My heart goes out to this wonderful woman who had to leave the world a bit too soon. Such injustice! I was broken hearted on hearing about her death. What a fabulous person she was! Indeed, the People's Princess!

    1. You said it, Shilpa. I was so upset when she died. And with the way she died.

  2. I have seen the documentary that you mentioned and another one as well. While I did feel for her, somehow I did not look at her as an inspiration. Frankly I am not too enamored with the British royalty.

  3. It was a strange place to be, London, when she died. Never seen anything like it before. in my opinion she had too much heart and soul to be a Royal.

  4. As you have rightly pointed out, no princess yet can hold her candle to her. So damn charismatic! I cried when she died even though I hardly knew a thing about her then! Anyways we can always be inspired by her philanthropic heart and her grace:)

    1. She's the best. I don't know what it was about her, but she was something else altogether.

  5. Diana had enough charisma than the entire royal family put together. I think one reason the world is still intrigued by her is because of her untimely death. Shall look out for the documentary you mentioned.

    1. She sure had it in her. If only she was around for a little longer. Do watch the documentary.

  6. The world will never see a wrinkled Princess Di. She died young and her death, untimely. I had seen snippets of the royal wedding on Doorshan TV. I loved her for the charismatic beauty and the love for her sons. She broke all royal protocol to kiss and hug her kids in public.

  7. Agree with you, none of the other royal women are in the same league as her. Yeah, she left the world too soon. Will check out the documentary on Netflix.

  8. Diana has had a tough life in the sense that being in a loveless marriage was bad enough and she seemed to find only the wrong men. It would have been so different if she had lived and seen her children grow up. I am also crazy about her.

    1. I wish at least for one day she felt loved and needed. I wanted her to be around her sons while they had their children. Diana as a grandma sounds so endearing.

  9. I was devastated when she died. I can still remember the day...ugh.
As a young woman I related to her "realness" so much. She represented womanhood to me at a time when I was just learning how to be one myself.
