Dorothy | #ThursdayTreeLove - 4

Promenade Beach, Pondicherry - August 2017

10th September was World Suicide Prevention Day. I often wonder what goes through the mind of a person who has decided to end their life. It wouldn't be easy and yet they go through with it. Why?

Life seldom is easy for all of us. It has its share of ups and downs. Sometimes, the downs lasting longer. As much as life tries to bend us, it is up to us to not break. Life is a gift from God and we should not give up on it. You can be bent and still be beautiful. What matters is, the strength you have to not break. That is a victory in itself.

I saw Dorothy when I visited Pondicherry back in 2017. The minute I saw her, the words that came to my mind were 'Bend, Don't Break'. I even used this image for a poem titled the same. No matter how bleak the situation looks, just hang in there. Patience and strength will help you bloom. Again. And again.

**Dorothy: Gift Of God.

  1. An apt thought to match this lovely tree.

  2. Suicide has touched the lives of my husband' family twice, including a cousin who suffered from depression for years. He seemed to be getting better and then....we will never know why. I loved your tree; I have never seen one like that.

    1. May you and your family have the strength to cope with this loss!

  3. True words!
Patience and strength will see you through every storm you face in your life. Sadly, some of us just give up without trying, or having tried and failed. Maybe they also don't find the support they seek! :(

    1. Still, they should never give up. Suicide always kills more than one person in a family. Nobody lives after that.

  4. Loved the part about being bent and still beautiful. That's a message we need to spread. The image we have of perfect lives and perfect people is so flawed.

  6. Thank you, Shalz!

I called this tree Dorothy because it means a Gift Of God, just like life :)

This was at the Promenade beach walkway. It is lined with tress, this was one of it.

  7. I love the way you name your trees . And yes suicide has become much more commonplace these days ....

  8. Love the name! And the message to go with this shot.

  9. What a beautiful and strong message. I learnt early on that it's better to bend that to break. As individuals, there are things we stand for and then things that we can be flexible about. So your post strikes the right note this side. Thank you so much for joining with this gorgeous entry, Soumya. I am so excited about you becoming a regular here <3 See you on the 26th!

  10. Loved the name of this tree:) my daughter's name is Maria Dorothy, and yes this month we took a rally with the Government school children - saying yes to life and NO to suicide. I am glad you combined the message with tree love. Suicide Prevention is every one's responsibility as its preventable.
