The Inner Scene

Aren't clothes such a wonderful creation? Just imagine all of us walking around naked or with leaves to cover our basics? A scary picture? Yeah, thought so. So you do agree that clothes is a wonderful creation. In my honest opinion, so are inner clothes. The ones we wear inside our clothes to hold up a certain few things. Yes, paint a picture if you must. The thing about innerwear is that it should be worn inside your outerwear. While most of us understand this, there are a few others who think that innerwear=outerwear. There also are people who think that if you wear inner clothes, you must show it at any cost. I may not be a fashion nazi, but I atleast know the basic difference between innerwear and outerwear.

Let's start with the men first. They need to know that boxers are not shorts that they can wear and walk out of the house. Or for shopping. Or to the gym. Or to a temple. Boxers are also like briefs, only with ample room. I do agree that appearances are deceptive and thanks to their checkered pattern they do tend to look like normal shorts. Sadly, it ain't. Maybe boxers are great to wear and lounge at home, but outside it should be a strict no no. Since the fabric is light and airy, it looks really odd when it is worn while stepping outside. I've seen men shopping in grocery stores wearing boxers with their wallets perfectly perched in its back pocket. The heavy wallet pulling the thin fabric down is not a very pleasing sight to be honest. I once saw a guy working out in the gym wearing boxers. He was wearing the best of shoes and a great climate control vest along with the boxers. Unfortunately for me, that is not all that I saw.

Coming to vests, some men need to know that there is a difference between the banians you wear at home and the vests that can be worn outside. I know it is all about the "aaram ka maamla", but it definitely is an eye sore to see a white piece of clothing stretched to its limit while I go out of the house. Within the walls of you house, wear/not wear all that you want. But while stepping outside, please wear a shirt if you do not have a proper vest.

When women buy a pair of jeans or trousers paying close to two grand for them, I don't see why they can't pay a fraction of that to buy themselves decent innerwear to wear inside it. I have seen so many women wear a sexy looking pair of pants that fit them like a dream. When they turn back, I see those ugly panty lines that ruin the entire look. I applaud the genius who invented the seamless panty. It is a boon to all women. While most women are aware of it and invest in it, others just choose to ignore it. 400 bucks for one underwear? No, thank you! The fact that a trouser worth two thousand has lost its look due to this is lost on them. The same applies to bras as well. Every thing that is in fashion is mostly figure hugging that complements the body really well. But when there is an ugly line running around your bust, your outfit is not what people are looking at. Seamless bras exist for a reason!

One thing that I just do not understand is why don't women pay enough attention to their inner clothes? I have seen so many women wear ill fitting bras that make their whole body look weird and out of shape. A right bra can do wonders for the body and make you look good on the outside and feel good on the inside. These days there are so many brands that make kickass bras for every body size and shape. They fit perfectly and make you look great no matter what you wear. It might be a tad expensive, but it is totally worth it! Unfortunately not many women think the same. Women would rather spend few thousands on clothes than spend a thousand on a bra.

By now it is established that innerwear is innerwear and it needs to be worn on the inside. It is no big deal if it accidentally peeps out later. Nothing embarrassing about it, you just adjust it back. These days I have seen tops that have been designed to show off the bra. From the back, from the side, or from the neck line. While I usually am up to date on the fashion scene, this is one trend that I do not understand. Women wear black tops with colorful bras inside and show off the bright pink, red or yellow straps from both sides. This I find really odd. I might be a bit too old fashioned here, but this is how I honestly feel. This is exactly how I feel about transparent bra straps as well. They are transparent, not invisible. Women need to understand that. Wearing a tube top with these plastic straps showing out looks really tacky! Some genius has also created the strapless bra. Use that instead.

As much as staying updated in fashion and buying fancy clothes is important, investing in good innerwear is also important.

They, after all, set the base for what has to go on top of it.

  8. The racerback needs a racerback bra... There's no other alternative... I don't know why others see that way. Nothing scares me more than panty lines... I have different sections in my wardrobe for inner wear for each dress type... Saves time during the morning rush without causing a disaster. As for boxers, that's funny coz I saw so many guys back home wearing it that I myself thought it's kind of half pant 😂😂 my latest peeve is sheer yoga pants... Now you can imagine the horror 😆

  9. Where did you find 'that' image, Soumya? I had a tough time looking at it...;P
But, I so agree with you on all points here. I, too, wonder why girls do that - showing off their bra straps to the world! Do they want to advertise their bra brands, or what? I am glad you wrote this post. Some people out there really need to brush up on their innerwear knowledge.
You ought to write some more posts on clothes/fashion. You are so good! <3
