What it is about:

The setting of X-Men depicts a world in which a small proportion of people are mutants, whose possession of superhuman powers makes them distrusted by normal humans. This film focuses on mutants Wolverine and Rogue as they are brought into a conflict between two groups that have radically different approaches to bringing about the acceptance of mutant-kind, Professor Xavier and his X-Men, who want peace between humans and the mutants, and the Brotherhood of Mutants, led by Magneto, who believes that humans and mutants could never co-exist, leaving him to develop a sophisticated knowledge in matters of genetic manipulation, which he uses to attempt to mutate the world leaders to allow mutant prosperity.

Professor Charles Xavier is the mutant founder of the X-Men and the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, who hopes for peaceful coexistence between mutant-kind and mankind and is regarded as an authority on genetic mutation. Although restricted to a wheelchair, his mutant powers include vast telepathy, which is amplified by the Cerebro supercomputer that he invented with Magneto's help. But when Magneto has other plans that include kidnapping and manipulating Xavier's X-Men for his own powers and sustenance, the war is on.

This is the gist of the X-Men, and almost all the other movies within the same series. Well, except Deadpool.

What I loved about it:

Trust Marvel to come up with such imagination and such highly likeable characters! I love the way the movie has been made and the amount of creativity and imagination that has gone behind it. I haven't read any of the X-Men books, but I would love to some day. I hadn't heard of the books or the movie until someone suggested it to me one day. This was the first movie that I watched and I was hooked. Plus, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine doesn't hurt the eye. This is a very tricky concept, but it has been executed brilliantly. Be it the characterization of each mutant and their powers, or the emotions that the evoke - there is something natural about the clearly artificial concept. Every mutant stands out on their own, albeit the movie focuses only a few primary ones. The characters don't appear caricaturish or comical in spite of their weird powers.

The moral of the story here is co-existence. Mutants or not, that is what we humans need to do. I have watched all the X-Men movies as and when they released and like most of us, I've mainly focused on Wolverine. That was until Deadpool came along. But, he's so awesome, he has movies of his own.

While I have liked most of the movies in the series, some did lack the clarity that the others had. While the first three movies were brilliant, I wasn't too happy with X-Men: Days Of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse. I initially didn't like X-Men: First Class too, but when I watched it the second time, I loved it.
