Escape Route

PHOTO PROMPT © Shaktiki Sharma John asked for the kitchen duty again. This time, they agreed. Earlier, he was assigned to cleaning the prison toilets. After months of requesting, the jailer finally let him do the kitchen duty. He assumed that John was really interested in cooking. John was expected to start with grinding tonnes of flour and then work his way up to cooking. He started early everyday in a dusty room and finished his work on time. The prison authorities were impressed.

Silence Will Not Help #AbMontuBolega

Cleanliness is both the abstract state of being clean and free from dirt, and the process of achieving and maintaining that state .  This is how Wikipedia describes cleanliness. The Prime Minister of our country has stressed upon this fact right from day one. Remember the ads by Aamir Khan called ' Athithi Devo Bhava '? Are we actually a clean nation? Are we setting a good example for our visitors? But then again what does cleanliness mean? It has a different definition for each one of us. For me cleanliness is being pure and true to oneself from outside and the inside. This should be shown in our actions and our behaviour. And most importantly it should come from ones own thought and from within. And how do we achieve this? But creating awareness. And how do we do that? By raising our voice. I would like to address this issue on two grounds. One, by cleaning the literal filth from the streets of our country. Two, by cleaning the filthy thoughts from the minds o...

Redoing It Right And Bright

Image Source: Google I stay with my husband and my in laws under the same roof. My in-laws are very old fashioned people and this reflects in the ethnic setting of our house. My husband and I live on the first floor and that is usually where we spend most of our time together. The setting of our room is plain and ethnic, and I have been waiting for a chance to brighten up the space where we spend most of our time. I believe that a home should be welcoming and should reflect the personalities of the people living in it. My husband and I are both extroverts and brimming with energy all the time. Sadly, our house seems to tell another story. So when I came across this site and was asked to pick up items and re-do my house, I jumped at the opportunity and grabbed it with both hands. I wanted to change everything and give the whole place a new look. I love vibrancy and colors and wanted my room to speak to me when I entered it. So the theme was simple and obvious: Color Blocking . ...

She Is Incredible

Image Source: Google A phone is a constant companion. For me and for everyone else, I'm sure. Gone are the days of calenders and watches, it all is present in the phone now. No more need to charge the camera battery overnight for a trip. All pics look wonderful on the phone itself and it is so easy to upload on all the social channels from there. My phone is like my best friend, always by my side, helping me do all that I have to and want to do. It is like my own portable diary that I always carry with me and note down points from everywhere. I have customized my phone apps to suit my taste and currently, I can do almost everything on my phone. But does my phone keep me safe? I have spend twenty thousand rupees on my phone, but it is not gonna prevent me from getting harmed. Or will it? Considering the fact that technology can almost do everything now, and since Kareena Kapoor Khan is also endorsing the safety ' VithU ' app, is a phone enough to keep one safe? O...

The Unfair Sex

How many of you knew that women are referred to as the ‘fairer’ sex? First, fairer in terms of color and then fairer in terms of letting men live their lives for them. An old saying goes this way. “mukhyo dharmaH smr^tiShu vihito bhartr^shushruShANam hi” Roughly translating to “ Women are enjoined to be of service to their husbands ”. It’s 2013 and still more than 90% of the population thinks the same. Out of it 40% are women. It is sad and irritating at the same time. I’m not a feminist here, but the point is simple. When both men and women come from the same set of sperms, why the inequality? Now you might argue saying that it’s the man who brings the sperm, hence he’s superior. But of what use is an uncooked bun without the oven? The woman not only contributes an egg but also willingly carries the fetus within her for 9 whole months and endures bone crushing pain in giving the family an heir. Doesn’t that in itself make her superior? I’m afraid not many people thin...

Turn The Mirror Around

O Ri Chiraiya Nanhi si chidiya Angnaa mein phir aaja re So how many of us remember these lyrics till date? Well, I do. How many of us recall the very first episode of Aamir Khan's brainchild, ' Satyamev Jayate '? I do. And I shall do for the rest of my life. Because it is difficult to forget the things that come back to haunt you.  When I got married four months back, a lot of people blessed me. Most of those blessings were in Sanskrit, which when translated means this 'May you be the mother of a hundred sons". I just smiled and nodded. Its 2013 and the fact that people still believe that sons are more precious than daughters came as a rude shock to me. When I first heard of the word 'gendercide' or 'genocide', I was blinking. Then I too resorted to the information giant Wikipedia for answers. This is what Wiki had to say. " By analogy, gendercide would be the deliberate extermination of persons of a particular sex (or gen...
