" Indian women's cricket team defeats New Zealand in the final ODI to clinch series ", this news screamed out to me from today's newspaper. Another news article spoke about Shahid Kapoor's recent wedding. Another one spoke about Hema Malini and her tweets blaming the father of the little girl who died for his daughter's death. India is a country obsessed with cricket and Bollywood. And I don't think that this is ever going to change. Festivals and religion divide us and cricket unites us as a nation. Like every other Indian, I love cricket. I do complain a lot about how the authenticity of the game has decreased owing to IPL, CCL and other money making leagues. And yet, I wouldn't stop watching it. My interest in cricket started from when Sachin and Sourav were the openers and has remained until this era. I remember those days when cricket was watchable only on Doordarshan and we had to adjust the antenna atleast a hundred times to watch an over....

Bangalore's Night Life

Image Source Initially Bangalore night life was frowned upon as everything was shut down by 11.30 pm. But since the new Government rules came into effect, night life in Bangalore is one of the best in the country. Apart from IT, Bangalore is famous for the pub culture and Bangaloreans love their drink and they know how to party. Almost every posh area in Bangalore is now home to a number of drinking holes. In addition to these there are a good number of discotheques in Bangalore , where you can go and dance to some wonderful music. Indiranagar and Koramangala being the party hub of the ever bustling and happening city. I saw a recent statistic which shows that the number of drinking joints in Koramangala is more than the number of drinking joints in the whole of Kerala. Bangaloreans are more often than not spoilt for choice, when it comes to visiting pubs. There are so many options that it would take a lifetime to explore all. Bangaloreans are not alcoholics, they know how...

Bedtime Routine

Copyright Ted Strutz " Ruhaan, it is past bedtime and you are still watching TV? ", I yell at my five year old. " But mama, I have no school tomorrow ." " Still, you need to get to bed on time baby ", I turn the switch off and then the lights and carry him towards the corner bedroom. " Will you please read me a story about cricket until I fall asleep ?" " Sure my darling ", I say and reach out for his tiny shelf of books wondering how his father would have read the cricket story had he not abandoned his only son who was born without limbs. This five sentence fiction is written for the topic ' Bedtime ' at Lillie McFerrin Writes . This drabble (100 word fiction) is written for Friday Fictioneers, 30th January 2015 .

The Fairer Distraction

Image Source: Google Today's newspaper was all about the dismal performance of Virat Kohli in the test matches against England. All fingers were pointed to his so called girl friend Anushka Sharma . Then, the Indian team manager  had the audacity to comment that " Only wives are allowed to be a part of the tour. Indian culture does not allow girl friends to come on a tour ". Seriously? The guy actually went on to say that Anushka stayed with Virat in his room, until the third test match. I do not know what exactly he has a problem with. With her being there, or the fact that they were not married yet. If I am not wrong, we won the first test at England. And the Indian team was held on a pedestal for a record victory and the same Virat was hoisted on shoulders. So, this happened when Anushka was staying with him right? Then why all this hue and cry. I somehow cannot help but think if Anushka would be still blamed, had we won the series. Probably not. I am not a...

For The Love Of Cricket

( Image Source: Google ) True Story #One: Date 1 : I look at him blankly as he stares lovingly into my eyes. I finally had agreed to go out with him after a year of pestering. He seemed to be a sweet guy and I was like fine, let us try it out. I kept checking my phone every now and then. He let me do it a couple of times and the third time he interrupts. He (filled with concern): " All okay? Some problem ?" Me (laughing): " Hey no, its the cricket match today right. The IPL . Bangalore is playing Mumbai na ." I wanted to be honest. I was already finding him boring and thought that I could atleast discuss the match with him. He (with eyes wide open): " So you watch cricket ?" Me: " Yes. Why ?" He (with a mocking laugh): " No, girls don't watch cricket right. That's why ." If I was looking for a reason to not see him again, I already had one. But I wanted to give him another chance so I some how swallowed my...
