X: X-Rated Hypocrisy

Image Source Warning: This post contains more than one occurrence of the words sex, porn, fu*k etc. If such words are known to hurt your religious or any other beliefs, then please stop reading right now. Or if you want to spread the word and inform people about the "vulgar" things I write about, then it is time to start dialing now! " It was not like this during our times ", " The new generation is so dirty ", " Women these days need to dress properly ", " The Internet is to blame for all this ", " She is of bad character, look at what she is wearing ". How many time have we heard our elders use these words? Atleast for me it has been one too many times. I remember years ago when MTV was huge and we had awesome music on it. These days all they have are serials after serials. But about ten to fifteen years ago, it was all about what the channel stood for. Music. My grandmother used to sit, frown and cuss when my cousi...

Compassion Is Long Dead #1000Speak

Image Source Compassion is a word that I hardly get to hear these days. Now it is all about passion, interests and marching ahead without even bothering to look around us. In this fast paced life, all one wants is to rise and rise. Even if it means to step on the shoulders of someone else. Some where money took over feelings and people do not bother to care for each other unless and until there is a benefit. Monetary or otherwise. Compassion is a lost trait and nobody is in a hurry or in the mood to look for it. Compassion is something beyond a feeling of sympathy. It is something that should come straight from the heart. It should hurt. The pain must be felt for the other person. If not, then it is not compassion. These days people are busy mocking each other without realizing how the other person feels. I don't have a word to describe such kind of behavior. I am sharing a few instances here, which clearly proved to me that compassion was long dead. One day while I...

Who's The Boss?

Image Source Remember how this ad created such a furor in our country, where a woman is shown to be the boss while her husband is her subordinate. A lot was spoken and many people trashed this ad by calling the woman different terms. Yesterday's newspaper spoke about how being a housewife is such a thankless job. A certain court even ruled that the monthly salary for a housewife is equivalent to around Rs. 5000. Five thousand for an entire day's work for thirty days? Talk about being frugal. Rs. 5000 is something that youngsters spend in a weekend now. Be it at a party or shopping. Rs. 5000 doesn't guarantee a stay in a decent place. When was the last time you heard about a one BHK being available for rent at Rs. 5000? Yes, never! Rs. 5000 is something a woman spends just for an hour's session at the parlor for waxing, a facial and a haircut. And this is expected to be the salary of a home maker? A slow salute to that judge who declared this. If a woman is ...

To Be Or Not To Be?

Image Source: Magpie Tales They sure do look beautiful The epitome of innocence known But I still have doubts about Wanting to have one of my own Children are a blessing they say But I have never felt the need to have one My life is complete in itself I don't need a daughter or a son I love my husband more than anything This love I do not want to share People shall call me selfish for this But honestly, I just don't care Having a baby is a huge thing It turns your life upside down I am so not prepared for this I do not want the maternal crown My husband shares my thought too We are not at all ready for this This is something we are sure about The choice is mine as much as his Although people rejoice in it I have seen some cribbing as well Some say that parenthood is heaven Others agree that it is close to hell It is different for different people A boon to many can be a bane to some But if you want somethin...

Having It All

Image Source: Google Best portrayal of gender inequality till now. So ladies, have you asked for that raise yet?  Gender inequality has always been a highly debatable topic, and I doubt if that would change in the years to come. First it was Pepsico's Indra Nooyi's " Women can't have it all " statement and then followed by the much hyped Microsoft CEO's not so soft words about women having to wait for their karma, instead of asking for a raise. Both statements make no sense to me. If a woman cannot have it all, then there is something that she is not doing right. I know this is mainly defined by the society as to a woman has to take care of home first and then her work. But do we conform to all societal norms? I am a working lady who works from 9 am to 7 pm, five days a week and at times this is extended to weekends and late nights too. In between all of it, I manage my writing and the household chores. I make breakfast and lunch before I leave t...

Rags To Riches

Image Source: Google Unless we are born to a Tata or a Birla , none of us are born with a golden spoon up our butt. All of us come from middle class families or at least came from. At least I do. I came from a lower middle class family where we struggled to make a decent living at first. Later as my sister and I completed our studies and started making good money we rose up the ladder to an upper middle class family. But I do not act like I was born into luxury. I still remember those struggling days and hence I know the value of money. This is how I am always gonna be. I see a lot of people around me who act like they were conceived on the bed of luxury, when that clearly is not the case. Unless you had a gold crib as a child, you still are a part of the rags to riches story. Whether you contribute to it or not, is something else altogether. One of the biggest examples that I see around me are those people who come from small towns to a big city like Bangalore. Suddenly, ...

Escape

I looked around and saw them all sleeping. I peeped out of the door and slowly walked towards the exit. I was in pain, but at this moment the only thing that I wanted to do was to get out of here. The newspapers next day spoke of an abandoned girl baby in a hospital.

Holy Grail

I wrote a lot of posts in April for the A to Z challenge. People accepted and appreciated all my posts and I felt wonderful. However, what baffles me is that of all the posts that I wrote in the last month the most popular has been the ' V-Virginity ' one. It has had the highest number of page views, since I wrote it, around twenty days ago. The best part is, I wrote a lot of posts after and before it, but none got as popular as this one. I am even scared to think of what was the search term some people used to get to this post of mine. Since majority of my audience are from India, I am not surprised that this post got the maximum number of hits. I did not even make a big fuss of it until Cal pointed it out to me one day. Yeah, the holy grail had won over the audience. Nonsense . If you live in Bangalore and subscribe to Bangalore Mirror, you definitely would have noticed a column called 'Sexpert' appearing in this newspaper everyday. More than ninety percent ...

C - Criticism

Everything one does comes under a scanner these days. The world has become such a place now that you can't even pee without some one else knowing. What we do, can either garner appreciation or criticism, but is rarely ignored. Since more than half of our lives are now led online, we need to be prepared for both. And we all know by now, that, not everyone can handle criticism. I'm not talking about the Bollywood movies, I'm talking about day to day things here. It can be a status posted on Facebook or a retweet on Twitter. If you put up something, you need to stand by it. No matter whose opinion it is. If it was your choice to put it up on social media, the least you can do is put up with the repercussions. I get a lot of flak for my blog posts. No, not surprising at all. I know that more than half of my readers visit my blog regularly and secretly wish that I drop dead. Great! I do care two hoots about it. Some even leave condescending comments as anonymous or usi...

Hypocrisy in Reality

So a girl of Indian origin wins the Miss America title and the whole world goes berserk. I'm surprised it make it to the front page of yesterday's news papers. India is rejoicing alright, but would she have won if she was based in India. I mean, when was the last time you saw a dusky girl lift the Miss India crown? The others are calling her a terrorist, an Arab and what not. The best part was that Times Of India had the audacity to print the hate tweets in the first page. Do you think the same would have happened in America? And who were the judges? Hardly an Indian in the panel I'm sure. I have already written about India's obsession with fair skin here . Four years ago. Till date, I don't see any change regarding this. She wins in a different country and India rejoices. In India, she would be dismissed like another aspiring girl in the ferocious world of fame. If this is not hypocrisy then what is? I wouldn't be surprised if she is signed up for the nex...
