Movie Review: La La Land

Image Source Movie Name: La La Land Cast: Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone Direction: Damien Chazelle Genre: Musical/Romance Duration: 2 hours 8 minutes I normally do not watch award winning movies. Mostly because I fail to understand them. The same goes with books that win the Booker prize too. I find them too complex and tedious to read. Of late, really good movies are getting made in Hollywood and such movies are coming in to focus thanks to the various award ceremonies that take place at the start of every year. The first time I saw the poster of 'La La Land', I found it so magical. Plus, it had the ever gorgeous Ryan Gosling. Sadly, I thought that it would be like any other rom-com and the fact that it was a musical did not pique my interest to watch it. I have never seen a musical before. I've heard of ' Chicago ' and ' Moulin Rouge ' doing really good as musicals and turning into cult movies later. But the first time I sat down to watch 'M...

Movie Review: PINK

Image Source Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Andrea Tariang, Piyush Mishra, Angad Bedi. Direction: Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury Genre: Drama Duration: 2 hours 16 minutes After 'Vicky Donor', I've been a fan of anything that is creatively touched by Shoojit Sircar. When I saw the first promo of this movie, the fact that it had Amitabh Bachchan in a female oriented movie made me want to watch it. When I learnt that it was being produced by Shoojit Sircar, I had mentally booked the tickets already. My husband and I watched this movie yesterday and it still continues to play in my mind.

Movie Review: Tamasha

Image Source Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone Direction: Imtiaz Ali Genre: Drama/Romance Duration: 2 hours 35 minutes When Imtiaz Ali makes a movie, you know that you have to watch it. But thanks to the previous outings of Ranbir Kapoor, I was a bit skeptical about watching this one. But Deepika looked so gorgeous in the promos and the first theatrical trailer looked promising as well. But I waited for a few reviews before I could book tickets to this one. Most of the reviews cited the same; not the conventional love story. And I being a sucker for unconventional stories, decided to watch it. Tickets were easily available and we found ourselves walking into the theatre on Sunday evening. The movie starts on a stage with a robot with a heart and a clown. Then it moves to the flashback where a young Ranbir is seen spending all his time and pocket money listening to a story teller tell tales about Ramayana. The young lad hates studying and is very happy in his own wo...

Movie Review: NH10

Image Source Cast: Anushka Sharma, Neil Bhoopalam, Darshan Kumar, Deepti Navel Direction: Navdeep Singh Genre: Crime/Mystery/Drama Duration: 1 hour 55 minutes I went to watch this movie with zero expectations. It had been more than three months since we saw a movie and we were in need of a desperate break from work, so my husband and I went to watch this one last night. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Anushka Sharma but since I had heard some good reviews about this movie I decided to go for it. NH10 also marks the debut movie of Anushka as a producer. Which is surprising because you do not expect a main stream commercial actress to produce or act in a movie like this. This is in no way a masala entertainer. The movie is bloody and gory. Exactly why it has an A certificate. A welcome burst of fresh energy from all the other typical commercial blockbusters until now. NH10 starts with a night view of Gurgaon, the newest IT hub. Meera (Anushka) and her husband Arjun ...
