“You cannot manage it alone.” He said again.
“I can and I will. This is important to me.” Anya replied.
“I don’t understand why you need to do this. Stay safe here.”
“I don’t want safe, Sameer. I’m tired of being safe. I need to find myself again and I want to start by going away somewhere. I need this break away from you and the children.”
“A solo trip is the answer?”
“I don’t know yet. But yes, maybe.”
“I keep you happy, right? Then why?”
“Because I need to keep myself happy too. For my sanity, for our family.”
This drabble (100 word fiction) is written for Friday Fictioneers, 8th September 2017.
A subtle write. Great.

DeleteGood one, Soumya! We all need this 'alone, me-time' sometimes. And, it's okay even if you are a mother or a wife. It brings peace. Like you said, 'Because I need to keep myself happy too. For my sanity, for our family.' :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tarang! Me-time guarantees sanity for me too :)
DeleteAn impressive 100 words.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lindy.
DeleteSome Me-time is required by everyone. Hope she finds her groove on the solo-trip.

Fingers crossed for her.
DeleteWonderful interpretation. Sometimes , 'me time' gives you perspective...
ReplyDeleteIt sure does most of the times.
DeletePoor husband sounds bewildered! Your story reminds me a bit of Cheryl Stayed's book Wild.
ReplyDeleteHaven't read the book, but I sure will check it out now.
DeleteAh a solo trip or simply getting away is so liberating and peaceful. I hope she managed to Soumya
ReplyDeleteOh she did!
DeleteI know a girl personally who left for the Himalayas 2 months ago seeking herself. I do hope she comes back without regretting. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, that's brave! Wish I could do something like that, but somehow I like the chaos I live in.
DeleteOh yeah, can totally relate--- that call from the mountains ... we just need to follow sometimes - to keep ourselves happy, strong and sane... simple as that- Loved the post dear Soumya.
ReplyDeleteThank you, dear Eli!
DeleteSometimes one needs the me time to clear one's mind.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! For me it is most of the times.
DeleteI want to go to the Himalayas and never come back.
ReplyDeleteTake me with you.
DeleteYou know, I've lived through the desperate feeling of needing some space/time of my own. Now, the kids are all off on their own, and our nest is empty. I have plenty of time on my own. Life changes. Sometimes it's wise to wait for it.
ReplyDeleteWow, you are patient! Maybe it is wise to wait, but sometimes we need that me-time no matter what the situation is.
DeleteLOVE her final response. I hope she finds what she seeks.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too. Thanks, Shantala.
DeleteSolo adventures are needed for the soul. I'm glad she made her case for the same.
ReplyDeleteYou said it!
DeleteI really appreciate your professional approach. These are pieces of very useful information that will be of great use for me in future.
