Not An Investment

"How long are you there for", Alan's mother yelled on the call.

"Not sure, ma. For a while", Alan said coldly.

"Aren't you aware of your responsibilities? I can't believe you are throwing away money on a holiday, instead of giving it to us."

"It's my life, ma. I've worked hard to be able to afford a vacation. I'm well aware of the responsibilities. You never stop reminding me."

"That's your duty as a son."

"I'm your son, not an investment." Alan said and hung up the phone knowing very well that he'll not be booking a flight back home.

    1. Oh don't even get me started on it. Parents need to realize that children are from them, not for them.

  5. Many of us can relate to this. My mother's epitaph should read "She did her duty".

  6. I think the MC made up his mind a long time ago that things were going to be different. The vacation was the closure he was looking for.

  7. It’s a sad situation when kids are trapped in the name of their duties and responsibilities. Unfortunately, many parents haunt their kids with the responsibilities they need to fulfill as the parents have lived all their life taking care of the kids. You have captured a lifetime of story in a hundred words so effectively, Soumya.

A son is more than an investment. Nicely done.
