"I'm sorry, I'll never do it again. I don't know what I was thinking", quipped Saahil.
Niharika was quiet. Finally, "Do you love her?", she asked.
"No honey, I love you. It was just one time, a mistake. Please forgive me."
*A gun shot*
Saahil lay on the floor with blood oozing out of his temple. He wriggled for a while before going still.
"Now, we're even." Niharika said and walked away, cupping her swollen belly.

ReplyDeleteShort, sweet and sureshot!
Beautifully chilling :)

DeleteThanks Raj.
i wish i could have done that....it hurts like hell and no longer you live
ReplyDeleteYou should have. Infidelity deserves nothing less.
DeleteI could picturise it. good one!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nisha.
DeleteSoumya,
ReplyDeleteOMG! She had nerves of steel to take such a strong step. How I wish she had punished him by some other way for the sake of child she was carrying.
Take care
Infidelity deserves no other punishment Jack. She did exactly what I would have done.
DeleteThat was too quick...on the other hand, she probably still has a few months to go
ReplyDeleteCheers

Again, just what I told Jack. Infidelity deserves no less than death.
Deletewhat i meant to say was that the punishment ended too soon. Slow death (maybe lasting for a few months) would have been more like it
DeleteWOW!! Why didn't I think of it?
DeleteI was just reflecting my state of mind here.
That was too quick...on the other hand, she probably still has a few months to go

I kind of echo Jack's comment here - but crisp. Good. :)
ReplyDeleteEchoing my reply to Jack's comment :)
DeleteThanks Sri.
Can mind and its travails be ever predicted or harnessed?
ReplyDeleteWhat is infidelity actually?
Putting up a pretense and games behind is of course unpardonable..but not enough to kill.
She should actually kill him from her mind.. has she succeeded in doing that with that gunshot.. i wonder!
And what if one pledges love and later on feels a vacuum? which is later on filled by another?
Crisp writing and it had the desired effect.. the reader jolts.. Good Soumya
Its all in the mind and its complexities. She did what she had to and wanted to, at that moment. That's the beauty of being a victim. You lose the capacity to think.
DeleteThanks pygmalion. Nice to see you here after long :)
DAMN!! That was just expected!!!
ReplyDeleteAye!! I could use a gun shot...few actually :-)
ReplyDeleteSo crisp... That's the only punishment for the biggest crime possible...
