It is impossible
To do it all
If you bear all the weight
You're bound to fall
Take a deep breath
Relax for a while
Once in a while it is okay
To ignore the task pile
There is only so much
That one can take
Push yourself more
And you'll feel the ache
There always will be
Something to be done
In the bargain
You don't come undone
Give yourself time
To soothe, heal and just be
This will help clear the chaos
Then, clearly you will see
Try and try as much as you can
In the process, learn and unlearn
But never light your candle at both ends
You will only melt and burn
Take care of yourself
It is okay to not be okay
Program yourself to not succumb
To what everyone has to say
You come first, always
Soothe the very first hiccup
Remember this one thing
You cannot pour from an empty cup
You need to be safe and fine
No matter what's at stake
It is okay to be flexible
Just bend, don't break
WOW! I so loved this poem, Soumya!
ReplyDeleteSO true....the perfect message for every one of us!
It's okay to not be okay...
Thank you, Shilpa.
DeleteLoved it! Was feeling stressed out with a lot of tension retained in the shoulders and neck. Scheduled a massage today and feeling so much lighter now. One must really look after oneself
ReplyDeleteI need to get some really good massages after I'm done with this. Thank you, Rachna.
DeleteOne beautiful post this is, Soumya. I agree with each and every word you have written. I don't care about to-do lists anymore. Well, I do. But I am not so crazy about it anymore. I try as best as I can to do things, be it blogging, work or daily chores. Keeping well both mentally and physically is more important. I loved this one. I do :)
ReplyDeleteThank you my dear Shalini :)
DeleteIts all about taking care of oneself first right Soumya. For often we fail to pay heed to who we are and whats our level to take it all, all in our wuest to keep everyone and everything around us perfect.
ReplyDeleteYes Ramya. With time, I'm learning to put myself first when it comes to work.
DeleteRelated to every word of this, like you were speaking to me, Soumya.
ReplyDeleteOne of your bests, undoubtedly!
That makes me feel so good, thanks Naba.
DeleteBeautiful poem Soumya! Self-care is important and if you don't look after yourself, no one will. Sending you lots of love!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sanch! Also, thank you for reaching out. Friends like you make me feel less stressed these days.
DeleteLove!

ReplyDeleteThank you, Nandini.
DeleteYes yes and yes!! This poem rocks Soumya and thats because it comes straight down from the heart - a heart thats been through all of this and more. Hugs my dear girl!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you my dear Shalz!
DeleteOh Soumya, this poem spoke to me, really. I could relate to every word in it. I was having such a tough time lately, neglecting myself and giving my best to take care of everything else, these words you wrote seemed to be about me. But yes, I realize it's the same with every woman. My favorite lines are:
ReplyDeleteTry and try as much as you can
In the process, learn and unlearn
But never light your candle at both ends
You will only melt and burn
Lovely to read your poem after a while. Keep writing poems. :)
Hi Vinitha, I hope you are feeling better now.
DeleteThank you so much! Yes, I've planned to write more poetry in 2019 :)
