I know I wanted to write more often in February, but life has its way of getting in between. Is it just me or did the shortest month of the year seem more shorter this year? Time is flying and we're just flying with it, it seems like. I had a bunch of posts planned for February, but February kept me on my toes. Why? I'll let you know in a while.
Work continued to keep me busy with the first release of the year. It is almost a year since I have been working from home now and while I have totally gotten used to it, I still miss office life and meeting my friends. There was something so comforting in it, I think that's the magic of a routine, no matter how monotonous it feels, it still is comforting. I'm very happy with the way I have learnt to manage my time during the pandemic. I am a pretty structured person and the start of the pandemic took me for a ride, but with time I learnt to swim against the tide and came out victorious. Like someone wise once said, everything in life just needs a little getting used to.
The best part of February and our lives in the coming future was when a new member was added to our family. On Valentine's Day, we brought home a four legged boy, and life has never been the same since then. He's a hyper-active Golden Retriever and while it has just been a couple of weeks since he's home, we cannot imagine life without him already. My partner and I are both animal lovers and we are friends with all the pets in our community and even the dogs on the street. Both of us have had pets when we were younger and have been thinking of getting one ever since we moved into our own place. I'm glad we finally got one home and suddenly everything in life is revolving around him. Sleep is erratic and more than half our day goes in feeding him and cleaning up after him. He's really little to be trained now, so we're waiting for a while before we can start it. As much as we want him to grow up soon, we want him to stay a pup for life. We've named him Waffle, but looks like we'll have to change it to Terror sometime soon.
Since the partner has started going back to work for 2-3 days a week, it is me who gets to spend maximum time with our boy. The concept of me-time has gone out of the window, but I don't feel like complaining one bit. Playing with him and getting bitten all over could feel like joy, I'm learning that now. Reading, blogging, bookstagram and everything else took a backseat thanks to this. I had read four books this month before he came home and was in between two others. I only managed to complete them recently. As someone who usually reads eight to ten books a month, six hardly feels like anything. Then again, it doesn't matter. Even if I'm not able to stay on top of my passions and interests, I'm spending time with someone I love and that's my top priority now.
Nurture is my word for the year and the first step that I've taken seems perfect. I'm continuing to keep our life private and that is exactly why we haven't shared anything about our boy on social media. We informed the people who mattered and the ones who love animals, that's about it. This is a beautiful phase in our life and we want to savor it in private.
I plan to write more in March as I have a backlog from the past two months. I miss the days where I could write six or more posts a month. Hopefully, from now on, I can get them up. As much as writing is important, thanks to the recent change in priorities, I can only have my fingers crossed for this. I'll try my best, that I know.
February has already become my favorite month of the year and it did come with more gratitude. Here's what I'm thankful for this February.
~ Work: The constant. The savior. The comfort zone.
~ Privacy: Being hardly present on social media is calming my soul to a large extent. No drama, no unnecessary attention, no vitriol. Peace.
~ Friends: I met a couple of my friends for lunch and it felt so good. Good food and good people always make for an excellent combo.
~ Books: I have somehow managed to come up with a reading schedule in and around my day. Most of my time goes into office work, household chores and spending time with Waffle, but I do sneak in a bit of reading every now and then.
~ Waffle: Puppy eyes is really a thing and the pure love that I see in his eyes just melts me. Here I was, thinking I have zero maternal instincts, until this boy walked into our lives. He has made our lives more disciplined, more structured, more comfortable and more loved.
~ Plants: Thanks to having a pup around, we had to move all our indoor plants to our foyer and our balcony. Since we have taken care of them so well, they have been holding up good so far. Just because we have a new baby around doesn't mean we ignore the old ones. We're continuing to tend to them with the same love and we hope that they continue to nourish in their new spots.
~ Home: Home is a much happier place now.
~ Love: I now have two boys who love me and my heart is full. Being pet-parents has brought us more closer and we are totally enjoying this phase of our lives.

The month of love did bring in new love into our life and we couldn't be more happier. How was your February?
Argh! You got a puppy!!! We need puppy pics! :D So happy that you got a pet though - they make such a big difference and you're right - you can't begin to imagine life without them. Glad to hear Feb was a wonderful month and hope that continues into March!
ReplyDeleteI cannot even begin to say what he's making me feel! I'm so glad we got him home.
DeleteThank you, Sanch.
Congratulations on welcoming home the pup! Time to experience the unconditional love of these four-legged souls :) I am in awe of you for being able to manage work as well as read and write. I am struggling to stay consistent. But yup, trying to push myself in March to be at it as well.
ReplyDeleteYou said it! Such pure love <3
DeleteThank you so much, Ramya. I'm trying my best to keep things going. Let's motivate each other here :)
Love to you and Waffle :)
ReplyDeleteGood to know that February was good. Here's wishing that the good times continue :)
Wet kisses back to you, Naba :)
DeleteThank you, I hope the same too.
Yay! You got home a puppy. The best decision ever! Do remember to train him in the first year. That is so needed especially for Retrievers. I am so happy for you. You know Coco is turning 10 this year, and I think he has been the joy of my life in the last decade. Dogs they simply are the best! Lots of love to all of you.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, thanks Rachna. Dogs just fill your heart to the brim <3
DeleteThank you so much.
Omg! I need to see Waffle. And what a cute name. Show me pics please. I am so happy for L and you. VT and I also want to have a pet but we are worried with when we travel or go back to work, how will we manage? But now I think I can babysit Waffle too ;)
ReplyDeleteFebruary flew by me too. The year just started and look where we are now. Wishing you a happy March, Soumya!
I'll share the pics soon! Oh yes, that was our biggest worry too and exactly why we delayed having a pet. Turns out there are ample pet-sitters and pet-boarding facilities around! He's too small to be left alone now, but after a few more months we'll definitely be looking at these options.
DeleteThank you, Parul. Come visit him sometime.
That's wonderful news! Waffle is a fabulous name! Would love to see the pics of Waffle. I respect your decision to keep things private. Sometimes a little privacy is all we need to make room for happy moments.
ReplyDeleteHope your March is filled with love!
Thank you so much, Vinitha!
