It's All In The Mind

PHOTO PROMPT © J Hardy Carroll

"Stop making up things, nothing is wrong with you."

"Do not over analyse small things. Why over think so much?"

"Why are you so quiet, why can't you just be your usual self?"

"Pray, it will help you feel better."

"Stop this attention seeking."

"There is nothing, it is all in your head. It is a psychological problem."

This is what people around told her. But she knew that depression was real, and she was going to fight it. Currently, this is how her mind looked like and she was going to do everything that it took to sort it.

This drabble (100 word fiction) is written for Friday Fictioneers, 26th May 2017.

  2. Sensitively done. Those outside can never know what it feels like.

  3. I'm a therapist. This one really spoke to me, because so many of my clients have been told these very same things before they finally seek professional help. Good take on the prompt.

  4. Such an apt description and poem. You have spoken about the heart of the matter. Depression is so real yet overlooked.

  5. So true. Depression is real and hardly under one's control. Well written.

    1. If only people understood that better. Thanks Rachna.

  6. Oh, how very true. Those who've suffered from it have heard all of this and worse. Sadly, that's what makes the mind feel all the more cluttered.

  7. Heartbreakingly true. Someone else would never understand how you are feeling. Depression is always brushed aside as 'just cheer up, will you'. Good take on the prompt, Soumya.
