She looks at me from across the campfire, her gorgeous face a subtle shade of gold.
"Why are you so quiet?" Nadia asks, poking my elbow.
"Nothing, just enjoying the moment." I say.
"And her?"
"You know her? She's gorgeous!"
"She's a friend, want to say "Hi"?"
Together we walk to the other end of the campfire and Nadia introduces Sofia to me. Sofia, such a beautiful name! Nadia leaves us alone and we sit and chat through the night. The beginning of love, yes.
Back in her room, Nadia sheds a tear. She killed a spark to light another.

DeleteDear Soumya,
ReplyDeleteThis happened to my oldest son's girlfriend in their college days. She introduced him to the young woman who has been his wife for nearly 20 years. Sad story...well told.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you, Rochelle. I hope the girlfriend moved on and is happy now.

ReplyDeleteI can't take heartbreaks well, Soumya! Please write something with a happy ending na....Life is, as it is, full of sorrowful stories :(
Look at the bright side, Shilpa.
DeleteMaybe this is the closure she needed so that she could move on with life.
A very generous woman. Nicely told.

DeleteOh no :-(
ReplyDeleteNo, no, this is a happy tale. She can move on and get someone who loves her now.
DeleteMost generous of Nadia to step aside as she is not the one for him.
ReplyDeleteSmart of her to know that.
DeleteIf he's that easily distracted by another pretty face, it wasn't love, anyway. Nadia will find someone who deserves her generous heart.
ReplyDeleteThat's the hope. Thank you for reading, Linda.
